Way back when this part of the country was being settled, the coming of the railroad was heralded as the 'greatest' thing. It finally allowed the grains to shipped afar.

About 10 years ago (after 100 years or so), they came in and removed all of the tracks and returned the right of way back to the adjacent landowners. It is cheaper and more convenient to haul grain by truck now, I guess.

I really enjoyed using the trains in Italy

The bullet train in France was cool, too.
