As I watch this discussion unfold one thought that occcurred to me is that extremist Muslims do things for which there is no justification, in my mind, at all, such as issuing fatwahs against Salmon Ruski (spelling ?) and against the creators of offensive cartoons in Denmark, how are these kinds of actions a rational response to the US having troops in Saudi Arabia or to the invasion of Iraq, especially since I think I am correct in that they preceded both.

It seems to me that many muslims come to the west and instead of melting in, want western society to change for them. Why is this? Is it not possible that this kind of mentality plays a part in the whole picture. Perhaps both Mish and Hawk are right and that some of the problems flow from our involvement in their countries and some of the problem is the muslim mentality. Just trying to wrap my mind around the problem.

Apart from the muslim world the US has troops in many countries, I think I read over 100 countries. Regardless of whether we should have troops in the mid east, it seems to me that is time to rethink whether we need all of these troops around the world. There may be good reasons but the subject has not been revisited in a long time and I think it is time to do so.

Lol, arguing in favor of the invasion of Iraq is a tough row to hoe, props for even trying, it's like arguing that the moon is made out of green cheese.
