Truman was among the lowest of the low on leaving office and now ranks quite high by most people, even historians (who are generally liberals and thus clueless).

Absolutely true. Even today, almost half of those surveyed have said they'd rather have Bush in office than Obama.

The other thing is that over time people will come to understand that the Iraq War was not the mistake it was trumped up to be. It may take 50 years, but eventually, it is likely people will conclude that Bush's actions in Iraq served as the trigger for important developments which made the Middle East a better place. In the same breath, they'll be exonerating Cheney.
