But I will give one specific about what consumers want; currently, for the most part, they don't want cars that have the disadvantages of current and near future electric cars. Hybrids are fine, because you still have the dense energy storage and easy availability of gasoline, pure electrics don't have that.

Tim, you don't just plan for today.....you also plan for the future, and in the future, consumers will run cars that don't run on gas.
