C.I.A. Is Sharing Data With Climate Scientists nytimes.com The collaboration restarts an effort the Bush administration shut down and has the strong backing of the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In the last year, as part of the effort, the collaborators have scrutinized images of Arctic sea ice from reconnaissance satellites in an effort to distinguish things like summer melts from climate trends, and they have had images of the ice pack declassified to speed the scientific analysis.

Plenty of research shows that all the money Americans plow into health care isn't getting such terrific results. A report card last month from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development showed the U.S. led the pack of rich countries in health spending, and doing better in only a few areas, such as cancer care. Second place went to France, way back at 11 percent of GDP, a mark we Americans passed in the 1980s. Columbia University statistician Andrew Gelman put together some data last month that compared health spending by country and life expectancy. Not a pretty picture: Talk about revealing....this chart speaks volumes. It came from Nate Silvers' 538 blog. I previously have posted to you some of his articles at 538.
