In the less_ unabridged dictionary there's a picture of Olberman, a victim of his own colossally excessive self-esteem, next to the definition of 'pompous ass'. Rather was more humble and reasonable, most of the time. The news items, however, were the product of teams of investigators, not his brain.

But, remember, Glenn Beck is a madman for pointing out that Van Jones is a radical communist, Anita Dunn praised Mao in a graduation speech, and Mark Lloyd supports Venezuelan style government control of radio. While we're on the subject of leftist idiocy vis-a-vis the panty bomber... Lefties have been opining that terrorist attacks are no big deal, and we should just learn to live with them. I heard a blathering idiot on Hannity's (godawful but I was stuck in traffic) Radio Show proclaim that even if the terrorists brought down a planeload of people every week, it would be no big deal because cardiovascular disease kills more people. Hannity... who cannot argue his way out of a paper bag ... simply said that the caller was being cold and callous toward the victims. True, he was. Lefties don't really give a damn when other people die, unless they're politicians or celebrities. But that's not why the idiot caller... and all the lefties who agree with him (you too, Matt Yglesias) ... are stupid and wrongheaded about this. First of all, cardiovascular disease (along with other diseases, car crashes, and other events lefties like to point out kill more people than terrorism) has a component I have control over: I can watch my diet, exercise, and take medication to reduce my risk. There is another component I have no control over... genetics... and it would be futile to attempt to change it. Terrorism is different because it is an action that requires the intervention of others to prevent. Terrorists must be killed, caught, or discouraged from engaging in terrorism. This can only be accomplished through aggressive counter-terrorism. The other factor the left does not factor in ... because lefties are notoriously near-sighted about consequences... is that Global Jihad has an innate capacity to escalate. It is only a matter of time before jihadists have access to weapons of mass destruction; nuclear, chemical, and biological. The advance of technology, the availability of funding, and the willingness of states like Iran to fund terrorist groups makes it all but inevitable; particularly in an environment where the US Administration is fecklessly treating terrorism like mafia crime, instead of a fanatical movement bent on the destruction of non-Islamic civilization. If Matt Yglesias and Hannity's idiot are nonchalant about 300 lives snuffed out in an airplane bombing, would they be just as nonchalant about losing a city? How about losing a school a la Beslan? Maybe they wouldn't care about losing a school. After all, kids don't count as human beings until they've been "socialized," according to Obama's Health Care czar. But they'd lose a lot of coffee shops and upscale dining establishments if Manhattan were nuked or doused in Anthrax. That might bother them a little bit. moonbattery.com
