NY times got it wrong and is completely lacking insight. Bernanke didn't miss the bubble, it's just politically untenable for a Reserve chairman to call one out and attempt to burst it after it's started, particularly a bubble that's perceived to be benefiting mainstream America. Bernanke has painted himself into a corner; he can't claim he "missed" the bubble because that would make him look foolish and incompetent, and he can't admit he didn't have the cajones/political will to burst it because that would expose facade of Fed independence and weaken Bernanke's position against Ron Paul's bill.
