The reason is the question as to the level and types of sectionally based rhetoric through the 1850s. Foote's book on the Civil War starts with Fort Sumter so it's after the 1850s period. And not relevant. That's all.

Secession might make them feel better as a concept but if you ask them whether Texas National Guard units should stop obeying commands from the Pentagon, what would they say?

They would consider that rude, one-ups-manship and typical of intellectuals/academics. A part of what I'm picking up is that I moved from "just one of the guys" categories in the early part of the decade to the "intellectuals/academics" category, despite the fact that we all got better acquainted with one another.

I find it strange since I'm usually friendly and can increase friendship vibes, not reduce them.
