He's definitely not a gambler. A gambler would instictively understand that going from $100K starting point to $200k is a 100% gain not 200%. :-)

But if I would only increase my 2nd portion per your example it would only be $250 x 100%= $250.

I am a gambler, but some bets are worth losing.

Many biotech stocks are scams, so one could make the argument that zero dollars at the end of the year is the appropriate baseline value. In that case, jbog’s arithmetic makes perfect sense :-)
