"Just look at the exchanges between Al and I on a daily basis. Every morning he comes here with some bright idea which I shoot down and he crawls back into his hole, conveniently drops the argument, and starts over the next day. You'd think Al would just leave because he gets his head handed to him on a subject he knows nothing about, almost daily"

one way would be to index fines to income levels so it's economically unwise to game the system

So, you think the conference committee (oh, yeah, they're not having one -- I mean the democrats) might just strike the $750 fine and require, for example, a $10,000 or $15,000 fine? You think that's a good idea?

another might be to make folks who drop insurance pay all the back owed premiums to buy back into the system when they need health care

I might not have the money to come up with $15,000. You going to let me die?

I know you don't know shit about this stuff, but you can't regulate compliance like this. Hell, they can't even collect the taxes owed the nation, and they've been working on that for nearly 100 years, inundating taxpayers with hundreds of hours of annual paperwork and creating a massive regulatory drain on the economy in the process.

And now you want to add this?

The truth of the matter is this is bad policy. You're inviting large-scale violation of the law, and you're going to get it. This is the kind of crap you get when you have legislation that has not been thought through.

It is beyond incompetent for congress to pass this measure.
