Certainly some significant differences, but too many similarities to dismiss out of hand.

That's a question for me now rather than an assertion. But the fact that it is a question means I'm willing to entertain it and to do a bit of reading to see how such an argument might hold up. And to be deeply worried by it.

I don't see civil war as worth worrying about; rather the level of animosity between parties growing and the possibility that this sectionalizes. I worry about the outcomes if this gets worse and more sectionalized. We may be at 1840 or 1830 rather than 1850.
