No, it's normal for picture quality to vary by channel, and even sometimes by program. It depends on the format each channel is sending in.

Thanks, Allen. I'm living with that disparity now but when the TV is good it's very good.

However, one of the odd things also is that the picture size varies. If we set it to "wide" to cover the full screen, on some channels it gets clipped on the sides or top/bottom or all four. A channel switch looks fine. Come back to the previous channel with the outsize picture; fix the picture; change the channel; then come back to the bad channel and the picture problem returns.

I had to get a wire..HDMI or something similar to get any good picture out of a new LCD 46 inch Samsung. It is 1080 Pixels but they would not compare to anything I saw in the store until this new wire was installed.

The young man who delivered my blu ray told me that I had to do this.
