Maybe they just didn't like being dictated to by some frenchman, lord knows there's a few of us here that didn't, and check out the occasion celebrated on Cinco de Mayo, those folks didn't like it either, maybe it's an all-Américas thing ... there is nothing whatever wrong with basing weights and measures on the distance between the king's heel and his toe, if that's what everybody agrees to do, and/or is accustomed to doing after being long ago dictated to do so

The US military uses metric just fine ... they also write dates properly, day/month/year ... think you might find some paucity of ego there? -g- ... the term 'metric' instantly brings to mind the epithet 'trudeau', and this country has seen few stronger displays of ego than that one
