It is all about identifying problems and finding solutions. Solutions exist. All we have to do is find the most elegant solution to fix the immediate symptoms and allow us time to fix the root causes. The immediate problem here is that there are people willing to blow themselves up and taking as many people with them as possible. It doesn't really matter what the motives are. We should be able to find an elegant solution through technical means to thwart these attempts. Profiling is a real kludge. Kludge by definition is "a badly assembled collection of parts hastily assembled to serve some particular purpose ". This kludge has gotten out of hand.

The interesting thing is, even with all the human error there are very very very few terrorist events. And that will probably remain constant. Because while people would like to believe the terrorists are superhuman- they too are prone to human error, and there just aren't that many of them (thank goodness). Considering how crazy some people are about terrorism now, you have to wonder how the US would deal (or wouldn't deal) with a homegrown terrorist threat- like the IRA- oh dear, and they might actually look "just like" everyone else- oh dear oh dear, what would we do? Considering what babies people are about the ME terrorists, I guess a large percentage of our population would simply stay in their homes, quivering like frightened blancmanges.
