Colleges closed for 'radicalizing' Muslims Intel community cites links to Islamic extremists January 07, 2010 © 2010 WorldNetDaily wnd.com LONDON – Fourteen bogus colleges in Britain have had their licenses to operate revoked after intelligence agents at MI5 discovered they had "multiple communications" with Islamic extremists in Britain – including the alleged Detroit bomber, 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin. The colleges also are suspected of being funded by al-Qaida after MI5, Britain's counter-intelligence and security agency, followed the money trail to banks in Pakistan and Yemen. Counter-terrorism officers have told the Home Office, which issues licenses to the "colleges," that they are "places where Muslims are radicalized." There are close to 100,000 Muslim students in the United Kingdom. The total number of foreign students in Britain is now over 500,000. "While the majority are genuine, there is mounting evidence that many British universities are breeding grounds for Muslim extremists," said an intelligence officer who is part of the Security Service team investigating Abdulmutallab, who allegedly tried to destroy a plane carrying 280 passengers over Detroit on Christmas Day. MI5 agents believe he was a key recruiter for al-Qaida among Britain's expanding Muslim student community. "He reached out to budding extremists who we had been tracking while he was studying at University College London," confirmed a senior intelligence source. MI5 now has passed a file to the CIA about the Nigerian's activities in Britain. Between 2005 and 2008 he was granted a visa to legitimately attend University College. But in the MI5 file the university is accused of being "complicit in the radicalization of Muslim students." Until he left the campus to go to Yemen to enroll at the Al-Eman campus, which is notorious among intelligence officers for its links to terrorists, MI5 agents have established that Abdulmutallab recruited more than a dozen British Muslims to go to Yemen. He also had arranged for extremists to give guest lectures in his capacity as president of the Islamic Society at University College.
