You are putting a positive spin, and that's good, since you have the fear. But if you need to get somewhere in a hurry, or you were ordered to fly for business, you'd do it. The people who give in to their fears, and do not enjoy the alternatives, and that's a lot of people, are limiting themselves. That's why people take drugs for anxiety, and to combat fears- because they do very often cause problems. That you might know one person who has a limited life that conforms to his fears, doesn't negate the point. Who knows where your friend would have gone and what adventures he could have had, if he didn't have his fear. I'm sure it shapes the way he plans his travel- it must do.
