We did a cruise over Thanksgiving, and the security is much tighter than it was just a few years ago, starting on the docks with photo ID, and then a metal detector and bag check as you enter the ship. There were curfews for young people onboard and they have raised the drinking age to 21, where it was 18 just a few years ago- at least on RCCL. (Not that that has anything to do with terrorism, just mentioning it- maybe part of a general overall policy toward increased safety). But as with everything else, there is no doubt a way to get it done if someone wants to badly enough.
