There is no law that tells officials to reveal everything they know.

That's not the issue at all. It's that Geithner told AIG to not disclose information. AIG wanted to.

Mary, AIG was/is a public company. There are straightforward laws regarding the dissemination of information to shareholders, or conversely, the withholding of information from shareholders.

It appears that Geithner asked a public company to withhold information from the public, some of whom would be shareholders.
