We should have made formal declarations of war in Korea and Vietnam also.

If we had escalated both wars at the start, threatened to take out Pyongyang with a Nuke and close Hanoi harbor while destroying their electrical system in Vietnam, neither war would have happened. We would have saved a trillion and 100,000 American lives while ending the cold war 20 year earlier.

Bush should have gotten that declaration. He made many mistakes, but I have to grant him that every challenge he faced was unprecedented and the next thing to being overwhelming. (I couldn't think of a better word, because he was clearly up to it, not overwhelmed.)
