The current system is ass-backwards. Whenever a ticket is purchased a computerized multiple data source background check should be done and that passenger assigned a risk score, with additional checks done as indicated.

It needs to be assumed that attacks will be by unknown organizations or freelancing idiots - by people not on any terror list.

Let me put it another way: When someone applies for a credit the issuing bank doesn't simply check a deadbeat list and issue credit if the applicant is not on that list - the applicant's identity and a bunch of other data is verified by via a credit report. if they can't get an idea who you are - no credit.

Something similar needs to be done by the TSA, which would allow them to focus on a manageable number of individuals.
