ownership survey from Boot mag (8/97) so 4-5 months old (depending upon survey reporting speed. With 3D accelerator cards being one of the fastest growing segments in the PC market, boot's poll examined present and future positioning of that technology. The poll asked visitors of boot's site which 3D accelerator they currently owned and which card they were planning to buy. 27.7% own a Diamond Monster 3D, 11.8% own an Orchid Righteous 3D, 3.8% own a Hercules Stingray 128/3D and 1.3% own a RealVision Flash 3D. Those polled also indicated that within the next 12 months 21% intend to purchase a Monster 3D, 7.6% want a Stingray 128/3D, 4.5% are interested in the Righteous 3D and 2.1% desire the Flash 3D. Both the Stingray 128/3D and Flash 3D cards have recently begun shipping, while the Monster 3D and Righteous 3D have been available since October of last year. "boot Magazine's poll reflects the enthusiasm that our Voodoo accelerators have generated within the PC community," said Greg Ballard, President and CEO, 3Dfx Interactive. "Readers of boot tend to be the early technology adopters, with the rest of the marketplace following quickly behind. We have been told by boot editors that our technology is trailblazing the standards for 3D acceleration, as this poll clearly shows." Other chipsets in the poll included NEC PowerVR, Rendition Verite, ATI Rage II, S3 Virge and the Cirrus Logic Laguna 3D. Of the cards currently owned by those polled, 16.1% have an S3 Virge-based card, 8.8% have an ATI Rage II, 7.5% have a Rendition Verite card, 1.7% have a Cirrus Logic board and 1% own a PowerVR board. i found it on 3dfx site:3dfx.com
