I'm sure he grew up. That's what flipped me. You start working hard, paying taxes, watching the Jimmy Carters of the world fail, and see how government regulation is taking over your life and you quickly ascertain that Democrats are the problem.

Most people grow out of being democrats.

Mindmeld, > However, I didn't know that you used to be a Democrat? Are you just pulling my leg or did you really? If so, what happened to change your mind?

I was a Democrat up until the Lewinsky scandal.

Before that, I believed the media characterizations of Republicans, that they're just a bunch of greedy old men who wanted to take away school lunches, steal from the poor and give to the rich, and generally give poor Bill and Hillary a hard time. The scandals revolving around the Clintons were nothing but conspiracy theories conjured up by right-wingers, I figured.

Then when the Lewinsky scandal hit, I saw just how much Democrats were willing to cover up for Bill's lying ass. And for what, an affair? What else was Slick Willie lying about? Sure, Republicans were rather zealous in going after a popular president during a strong economy, but my basic trust in Democrats was shattered.

Of course, my views were steadily turning conservative anyway, so if it wasn't Lewinsky, it would have been something else. Guys like RW and Bentway will claim that I'm just being a prude, but it doesn't matter. That was my symbolic turning point.
