OpenROUTE Networks Names Kenneth W. Hovaldt Vice
President of Sales For The Americas

WESTBORO, Mass., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenROUTE Networks, Inc. today announced
that Kenneth W. Hovaldt, a senior executive with more than two decades of experience in the
technology sector, has been named vice president of sales for the Americas. Hovaldt, who reports
directly to Daniel J. Capone, Jr., president and chief executive officer, joins OpenROUTE
Networks from Fujitsu Network Switching of America. OpenROUTE Networks is a wholly owned
subsidiary of Proteon, Inc. (Nasdaq:PTON).

In making the announcement, Capone said, ''This appointment further strengthens our strategic

private networks. Ken has the right skill set and depth of experience to work with service providers

Hovaldt's long career spans sales and marketing positions at some of the world's largest technology
providers. At Fujitsu Network Switching of America, Inc. he held the title of senior vice president of
marketing, sales and business services. In that capacity, he was responsible for establishing the
North American and International market penetration of broadband switching equipment and
associated applications. Earlier, Hovaldt held senior positions at DSC Communications, ITT
Telecom, Siemens and Northern Telecom. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University; data
processing degree from the College of San Mateo; BA from Augustana College; and MBA in
telecommunications from Golden Gate University.
