Well that was childish (Just being frank and honest here). Did it take you all day to think that up.

The first section of your response is a rambling rant but I'll try to be short no guarantees, I tend toward verbosity my self (just being frank and honest with myself).

Your repeated demand, to link to some authority (who knows what/who that is) to be used as a critic of your preacher's actual assertions is empty and you know it. His actual assertions, have not been under review by the world authorities and you know it. His actual assertions are not empirical. He created a specific context with a definite objective which I and I alone am criticising. I'm sick to death of you bowing out with the claim that mysterious (unavailable/undefinable) authority needs to be deferred to before you can deal with anythign. You and I are in this discussion and you and I are alone in it, so far, so man up bucko. If you can't handle it, just admit it.

""And so the Eastern scriptures are filled with parables and fables and stories, and myths and song, and haikus and hymns and epics—but no history, because reality takes place in an unrepeatable space/time context, not in history."

Jesus: “The knowledge of the secrets of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. This is why I speak to them in parables, ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand’” (Mat. 13:11,13).

"Ok. I think, I've made my point which could turn into volumes if you want to go nutso with it."

.........................................

Actually you didn't make much of a point at all. You are the one going "nutso" (another very charitable term on your part I might add) talk about bully tactics, SHAME ON YOU.

I made the point and I made it clearly. Sniveling around over how i spell your name or the preacher's, and those other lame cracks are just whiney tangents (frank and honest) you are using to evoid manning up in this discussion.

BTW, I used the term nutso to indicate we can go wild and write volumes of stuff even though the issue is simple and clear. And I said we can because personally I'm quite up to it. You don't seem to be however...

"...provide an in context quotation and an authoritative source that factually disputes his actual assertion."

egads dude. We both know that is a complete head fake. I'm not even willing to discuss it further. It's the same lame tactic you've used in the past to avoid responsibility for your own remarks. You can't discuss anything until you see the authoritative basis for bla bla worldview, bla bla bla... Did God give you the ability to use logic and reason. Man up then and use what you were given. (There is no shame in being frank and honest, so you can stick that little needle someplace where it will do some good, I aint a voodoo doll in spite of what you may have heard)

Yes I did but I can make more of it if you like.

Your preacher said, "And so the Eastern scriptures are filled with parables and fables and stories, and myths and song, and haikus and hymns and epics—but no history, because reality takes place in an unrepeatable space/time context, not in history."

I pointed out that Jesus taugh in parables. But the fact is the Bible itself is filled with all those things. And as he accurately points out some history. His conclusion is bigoted nonsense. There is plenty of history, which people consider real outside of the Biblical contents, and many people consider their history to be a sacred matter.

Which of those things should be considered scripture? Well that, as with the rest of his bigoted attack, is a matter of perspective. Some people would say only those things which can be authenticated as God's specific message to man,... not religious people's letters, wisdom, inspirations, etc. Other people think everything associated with their world view is sacred. Some pick and choose. But his comment is pointedly bigoted.

"...you have made it an issue by repeatedly questioning my integrity."

I was being overly polite in giving you more credit than you have earned with the thin ice comment. My mistake. tsk

<Again you accuse me of dishonesty. Shame on you! REALLY!>

WHAT/?????????

PopeGreg... you're the biggest misquoting, misrepresenting, and outright liar I've seen on SI since I showed up here. Give us all a break from our gutbusting laughter.

Seriously... if someone started the "biggest liar on SI" thread... you'd be right near (probably at) the top.
