I suspect that the titling point was Obama's election. It goes a bit farther back in my case. Somewhere around '06 or so, the two neocons in the office became disillusioned with GWB, but they'd never say so in front of me, which I interpreted as a "not providing comfort to the enemy" sort of thing. I'd hear them talking among themselves, though, so I knew their true views. That's the first time I realized that they saw me as a political enemy, not just someone with opposing views, even though we got along well otherwise.
