>> Even then, there was very high support for Iraq in the first year. But with the screw ups and failures, support has wained considerably.

But what OUGHT to matter is public opinion at the time the war starts. Because while the public has the ability to walk away from a war a year in, a president generally doesn't have that option without massive adverse consequences for the country.

I heard Rove talking about this today -- the Democrats who supported the Iraq War going in then flipped when it started going badly -- how they harmed the nation. And he's exactly right.

People like Jay Rockefeller, who supported the war based on all the intel GWB had, then when it got bad, he talked about GWB "taking us to war based on lies". That statement was an act of treason. There were no lies, there were mistakes. And the damage he did to our nation was immeasurable.

I feel the same way about the soldiers who released the Abu Ghraib photos. They were responsible for an untold number of deaths and their actions were treason as far as I'm concerned. If something like this happened during WWII I suspect they would have been dealt with harshly by others in their platoon.

You said that we should drop the charade that Muslims are peace loving. That shouldn't be a reason to go to war with them; we're not exactly peace loving ourselves. I think we all have some work to do...

I don't know. You tell me. There was near unanimous support for Afghanistan, until Bush shifted to Iraq. Even then, there was very high support for Iraq in the first year. But with the screw ups and failures, support has wained considerably.

What's your answer to your question and why did you ask it? I don't think I'm following you.

You answered his question. You stated Muslims are not peace loving but then you said the same about Americans. See your paragraph up above.
