Bone chilling cold through Florida

The latest arctic blast may set low temperature records this weekend across southern Florida.

Arctic air has invaded the South and temperatures will be very slow to moderate this weekend.

The day will start out with record setting cold temperatures for the date throughout the state of Texas.

Most of the South will feature cold sunshine today. The one exception will be along and south of the I-4 corridor in the state of Florida where a few light rain showers or sprinkles may fall.

There is even a slight chance that some of this precipitation may mix in with an ice palette or two across central Florida.

Highs today will be much colder than what the region is used to seeing. Afternoon temperatures will only manage to reach the 20s near the Mason Dixon line.

Temperatures further south won?t be all that much warmer. Look for afternoon highs in the 30s and 40s across the Southeast, Lower Mississippi Valley and a majority of Florida.

The winds will make it feel even colder with morning wind chills ranging from -5 in the northern parts of the region to the lower 30s far south.

Below freezing temperatures will threaten the Florida citrus crop tonight. Parts of Florida could see historical low temperatures by Sunday morning with freezing temperatures making it all the way down to Miami.

A sustained warm up does appear to be on the horizon. Look for temperatures to return closer to normal values next week.
