Maybe so. There are examples of even fast food places making healthy food palatable, Subway is a great example.

As for bodega's not being able to handle fresh vegetables and fruit, they could easily handle frozen and canned. Not quite as good as fresh, but closer than Twinkies!

I really think a lot of our problems with obesity have to do with our slow evolution. The fittest in the past ( pre the invention of farming) were those who could squeeze every bit of nourishment out of the food they were able to get. On an evolutionary time scale, that was an eye blink ago. Now, the same ability is killing us.

Fast forward to today, when we can stuff ourselves to bursting with food engineered by "food scientists" to be as addicting as crack to many, maybe most, people. Couple that with the fact that none of us really ever have to get off our ass anymore.

We need a drug that makes us burn fat and/or feel full. Evolution will eventually deal with it, it will just take forever.
