On the Windows Live Messenger signon screen upper right hand side, you have a V, click on it, Go to "Tools" and then "Options" and under "General" one of the options is to select or deselect 'Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows'

That sounds too normal. There's no V on my messenger (I'm not logged in, if that matters), but there is a menu bar with File Options Contact Tools. Under Tools there is Options, but within Options there is no General. There is a Personal choice, but nothing that appears to allow me to uncheck 'Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows'

It's Messenger 14.0.8something
