If we are to enforce double standards then Reid's comments are ok. Trent Lott said some nice things about Strom Thurmond that were taken out of context and he was railroaded on that basis. Reid deserves the same treatment as Lott because is is fair and equitable. I didn't think that saying nice things about Thurmond were about anything, and the only thing about this that offends me is that democrats want to live under entirely different standards.

That said, what the hell is wrong with his comments? They were statements of fact. Is the turmoil because he used the word "Negro?" The turmoil is because the Republican noise machine is adept at manipulating the media. It's that simple. Can you recall the last time they had trouble getting traction with one of these bogus issues? I can't. It works every time. Remember the turmoil about Pelosi's new Secret Service airplane? Calling Reid a racist for his commentary on the voters is like calling Time magazine racist for this headline: The Nation: I'm Gonna Kill That Nigger King' time.com I'm all for anything that will help get rid of Harry Reid. So I hope this helps sink him. That kind of Karl Rove short-term thinking is what is sinking the GOP. If you win this battle by ousting Reid, you take another step toward losing the war because you strengthen the Political Correctness Police. Reid is a wimp, so the only possible results are replacing him with an equally inept opponent or perhaps a stronger one. Tom
