Beyond the general problems of arguments from authority, there is some question whether we understand climate enough for anyone to be considered an authority. Just as even the smartest economist can't reliably tell me what the unemployment rate will be 5, 20, or 100 years from now, the smartest climatologist, even one unencumbered by the bias and politics that has been plaguing that profession, can't reliably tell us what the temperature will be 5, 20, or 100 years from now. The climatologists might know a lot more about climate than most people (and probably believes he knows more still) but what he knows is still woefully inadequate. When you throw in the politics and other biases in with all the relative ignorance, I'd come to the conclusion that no one is really a solid authority here.
