EDITORIAL: Harry Reid and Tim Kaine at the Cracker BarrelRate this story

The majority leader and the Democrat Party leader discuss the

I cain't believe all the fuss that's been kicked up over what I said about th' president not bein' like a reg'lar Negro.

Nope.

Lawks a mercy, I was complimentin' the man.

Clearly.

Billy Bob said a few years back he'd be the one fetchin' the coffee; I don't see people getting' so danged riled up about that.

Nope.

That's way worse'n what I said.

Clearly.

I said he had no Negro dialect. NO dialect. None.

Yep.

He ain't like them other Negroes.

Nope.

People can understand what he's sayin'.

Sure can.

Unless he wanted to talk like a Negro, of course.

Sure.

He can turn it on with them. They'd expect it.

Uh-huh.

What I'm sayin' is he can talk to white folk too, that's all.

It was all in the context of you saying positive things about the man.

Dang right. And jumpin' on me for sayin' he's light-skinned. Well he is! It is a fact! Judas Priest, he's half-white.

Sure 'nuff.

I'm saying he's not like the rest of 'em; that's my point. He appeals to white folk. He can get votes. Nothin' negative about it.

You said great things about the man, and anyway, you already apologized for 'em.

Now here I'm gettin' dumped on by them dang reporters when the president already said he forgave me.

He said the book is closed, his own words.

Yep. He stood by me. Proves my point.

Mighty white of him.

Yep, he's one a th' good uns.

Here's the problem with reid's remark... let's take reid's language and translate it into plain English...

"light-skinned with no Negro dialect unless he wants one."

This means:

If you talk like a black man, you're not a good candidate.

If that's not inflammatory, then I don't know what is... can you imagine the firestorm if Rush or is Hannity said that?

But, let's break it down...

First, the mind set is reflective of racist politics, he's accusing obama of take a "negro dialect" and turning it on and turning it off whenever he wants to... let's look under the hood of this statement and see what it really says... reid is also saying that any black person would be at a disadvantage if he couldn't turn his "negro dialect" on and off at will, and this also means that any black person who speaks differently would not be a good candidate for President... this is clearly a racist remark, what if Rush Linbaugh made that comment, or if Mitt Romney made that comment? Do you think it would be dismissed so quickly? Not hardly... there are many people who have all kinds of accents, but why point to blacks? And why call their accent a "dialect?" Any why use the word NEGRO? Isn't that telling you something about reid's mind set? When was the last time you heard that word?

But, let's invert the statement and see where it takes us... a white man who speaks with a "negro dialect" would not be a good candidate... how does that sound?

I could go on, but why bother, and please don't pretend you can't see the point...

MLK's niece is highly offended by reid's clearly racist remark... so, let's not white wash it with limousine liberal double talk...

What makes the remark racist is that it was made in private, to people that he believed were of the same racist mind set... one might think he would know better than to make such a racist remark in public, he knew how inflammatory it was when he spoke it... and please don't tell me you don't see it...
