You are missing the forest for the trees. The big pictures is that our actions, which were recorded in those photos, have been rightfully condemned by all nations and it has damaged our standing in the world and our moral authority to push for human rights. The correct response is to acknowledge that we made mistakes, vow to not repeat them, and ensure that systemic reform takes place to prevent this kind of abuse of prisoners in the future.

Now, the GOP and the neocons on this thread don't even acknowledge that abuse has occurred, despite all the photographic evidence and testimony to the contrary. So this is why the GOP has no credibility in this area and why Americans mostly side with Dem handling of this issue. No true Christian can look at these photos and believe that it is morally justified to continue these practices. That is why Gitmo and other prisons, which are symbols of this abuse must be closed.
