I don't want to give anyone a free pass either, note I said "more" with the government, not "only" with the government.

A business executive asking for a handout for his company is probably acting against the common interest, OTOH he may be acting in the interest of the owners of the company, who he's supposed to represent.

A politician giving the handout would normally be acting against the interests of the people he's supposed to represent.
