Great article on the dilemma we face with unfettered capitalism. There is this mistaken notion among GOP members that capitalism should be laissez faire. Very few economists would agree, because there are very well documented scenarios where free markets fail to provide the appropriate incentives to maximize the long term good for the industry and for the consumer. Most economists will tell you that there are scenarios where the government has a role to play to recalibrate markets to help provide stable rules and a level playing field that encourages competition. So a free market working optimally is one that is mostly free, but has a healthy bit of government involvement to help curb abuses.

The article below talks about how to get this balance right. He doesn't come to any conclusions other than his fear that business has become a bit too laissez faire and corrupt, which is leading to all these meltdowns and abuses, but also his fear that gov't could over-correct in fearful times such as these. But his observations along the way are insightful.

Saving Capitalism . . .from the capitalists.

So you hate evangelicals? What else is new?

The trouble with liberals is they hate America and ordinary Americans. Obama is an example. It was Wright's anti-Americanism and racism that attracted Obama to his church. He mentioned in his book joining the church because of its "black value system" and he quoted the sermon in which Wright says "White men's greed drives a world in need."

Mindmeld, > The problem with these Evangelicals is that Pat is just one of many many Evangelicals and many of them think and say the exact same stupid shit.

99% of the evangelicals I know are not the way you think they are. That includes the head pastor of every church that I've attended on a regular basis.

You are just stereotyping based on experiences that I frankly do not consider to be very objective. Really, your mom is fed anti-Obama propaganda at her Baptist church? Sounds like a church she should leave. Plenty of other churches to attend.

Pat Robertson a spokesman for Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.

Pat Robertson and the Devil [Greg Pollowitz]
For those of you who don't know, Pat Robertson — who is in hot water for saying Haiti's deal with the devil caused the earthquake there — is also an anthropogenic climate alarmist:

Ordinarily, a global warming Chicken Little spouting off something nutty would be completely unremarkable. In fact, I expect it. But Robertson is no ordinary clucker. He's been a spokesman for Al Gore's "Alliance for Climate Protection," appearing in the group's "We Can Solve it" advertisements urging action on climate change.

So Al Gore looked around and thought to himself, "Pat Robertson... now there's a credible guy. He's just who we need to reassure the public that we aren't a bunch of crackpots."

Oh, did I mention that Robertson appeared in Gore's ads with the Reverend Al Sharpton ?

Doubly reassuring, no doubt.
And here's the ad:

I assume the devil is also responsible for the warming planet, right?
