Intel posts huge profit jump, tops views

SAN FRANCISCO

(MarketWatch) - Intel Corp. /quotes/comstock/15*!intc/quotes/nls/intc (INTC 21.45, +0.49, +2.34%) on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter profit of $2.3 billion, or 40 cents a share, compared with a profit of $234 million, or 4 cents a share, for the year-ealier period. Revenue was $10.6 billion, up from $8.2 billion for the same quarter in the year-ealier period. Adjusted income was 55 cents a share. Analysts had expected the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip giant to report earnings of 30 cents a share, on revenue of $10.2 billion, according to a consensus survey by Thomson Reuters.
