different definitions of what is "left"

I think the left-right business does only a semi-adequate job of explaining the differences. On the extreme left, near total state control of every individual's actions. On the extreme right, complete individual liberty of action; anarchy if you prefer.

Examples of far left might include Stalin's or Mao's Communism. Nestled fairly close would be national socialism and it's fascist variants, with European socialism still well to the left of center.

Hong Kong, maybe Singapore are perhaps examples of something approaching right, at least in the economic sphere.

Nolan's World's Smallest Political Quiz theadvocates.org is probably a more comprehensive measure.

It seems to me that understanding has been seriously fogged by what's been done to "money".
