>“A Comparison of the Effects of Three GM Corn Varieties on Mammalian Health” biolsci.org, written by three French scientists who got hold of confidential studies performed by Monsanto.<

Ashley et al: Did you notice that Greenpeace was a sponsor of the aforementioned study by the French professors?

>I think this is very unfortunate because I think GM food has tremendous potential and the Europeans are wrong to be so opposed to it.<

My financial projections for MON assume zero contribution to the business from Europe. Thus, if Europeans ever catch up to where the rest of the world is on this issue, it’s all upside.

>If this blows up, it will make things difficult for a long time for Monsanto and GM in general.<

I respectively disagree. Most of the world has accepted GM crops, and they will not turn back absent a credible hypothesis as to why these products are harmful. Data from a biased group of investigators do not a hypothesis make.

>I just sold my Monsanto holding.<

Well, that’s what makes a market. I bought shares this week for the portfolio of the private foundation I advise. (MON is the currently largest individual stockholding in the Foundation’s portfolio.)

You still own MON in the SI charity contest, right? :-)

Ashley,
As mentioned, I’m non-plussed about Monsanto’s GM seed program as there has to be some effort to address the growing shortage of food, plus, MOS has survived more devastating articles than the one you cite. VF issued this one several years ago, and MOS didn’t miss a beat with their marketing efforts.

I would be more concerned about the pending Supreme Court ruling and the related PR that Monsanto put out tonight. The SC ruling will have more of an impact than the Greenpeace funded ‘research’ paper…..IMO!
