Well, tejek, it's because every time I put my vote behind a party that seems passionate about something enough to get a problem solved, they disappoint me. Look at the Health bill. It's a watered down mess.

Its a watered down mess because so many in this country think its an example of socialism and have fought it tooth and nail. There are so many misunderstandings that have been perpetuated by American conservatives through the years that its getting harder and harder to get anything done.

For an example, small gov't is better. Maybe it is...maybe it isn't but what's clear is that small gov't was only appropriate 200 years ago when we were still an agrarian country with a small population and lots of land. It CAN NOT be true now. Its a ship that's sailed. We are over 300 million strong with very diverse needs....needs that can only be met by large gov't. So can we get with the 21st century already.

Another example is that health care reform is an example of socialism. Its amazing....Rs have convinced this country that national health care is evil. Of course no one takes Rs to task with the fact that we spend more on health care per capita than most nations and yet have a much lesser lifespan. Its pure insanity that Rs have gotten away with this sh*t for decades.

Another example is that liberals are the spawn of Satan and Rs are the true patriots. Better yet.....Rs are the epitome of fiscal integrity and Dems are spendthrifts. Forget that every Republican president since Nixon has run up the deficit while catering to the wealthy and their corporations and screwing the little guy. Forget that I can provide this thread with a current list a mile long of Rs who are corrupt and/or pervs and in response, get thrown back at me Ted Kennedy and Mary Jo whatever her last name is over and over and over again. An event that happened over 3 decades ago.

Another thing I like about the GOP is this. They did give two shits about reaching across the aisle for Dem support. When they were in the majority, they pulled out all the stops to pass exactly what they wanted. That resulted in better execution of their policies. You don't have to like their policies, but they executed them great.

Obama ran on a platform where he said he would try to work on both sides of the aisle. Its what Americans say they want in poll after poll. So he tried....out of good faith....to Americans....for one year. No longer....the Rs screwed themselves on that issue.

I think the Dems have better vision, but their execution is so darn piss poor. They spend more time compromising with all the people that are trying to obstruct progress, rather than just going for what they want with their super majority, or failing that using reconciliation to get what they want. It's silly and amateurish.

MM, clearly you haven't followed the day to day struggles of trying to get health care through Congress. The Democratic party is a big tent....it has people more conservative than you and as liberal as Al or Z. Trying to get a consensus is as difficult as picking up jello with chopsticks. In addition Dems tend to believe more in democratic thinking....meaning independent thinking. Rs are more willing to walk in lock step although I think that may be changing......see tea baggers.

I learned in business long ago that most of the time it's more important to be ruthlessly exceptional at execution of an idea, rather than to have the very best idea.

How can they be ruthless? They can't fire each other. The party can cut them off financially but most incumbents have their own campaign funds and donors.

That is the difference between the GOP and Dems. The Dems need to learn a thing or two from the GOP. In the mean time, they will continue to disappoint me. Where's my renewable energy legislation?

Rs didn't have to be ruthless. That's because they didn't do anything. They simply created pork and gave Bush whatever he wanted.

What renewable energy legislation came out of the Bush Congress? What health care reform? No child left behind is a joke. What vision did the Rs create for the country? A space expedition to Mars? A rebuilding of the nation's infrastructure? A national rail system comparable to other nations? Reducing our dependancy on oil? There was no vision..nada, zilch, zero.

All we got from the Rs was pork, tax cuts for the rich, and the war on terror. Who had to be ruthless? It was a slam dunk for Rs. And during it all, few conservatives complained.
