>>>All numbers are confirmed. There's nothing to debate. However, I doubt how a company should be valued when earning is temporarily depressed due to some temporary problems.<<<

I doubt its all due to temporary problems. There are two new competitors in the HD biz these days, IBM and Samsung.

There are numerous books out there besides those involving Warren
Buffet. James O'Shaughnessy wrote a book from an objective
perspective covering approximately 40 years of market data for what
works on Wall Street. Besides price to sales (value indicator) also
look at EPS and relative strength (growth indicator) as stated in
IBD (11/3/97):

EPS Rel. Str.

SEG 41 6
WDC 95 25
QNTM 98 95

I am not as confident that the problems are temporary and that
earnings are temporarially depressed. (Although todays news has had a
positive impact.) Again look to managements statements they do not
appear positive. Do you think that Buffet would consider that SEG has
a strong controlling interest in the DD industry? I don't think so,
and this is an extremely important factor. The new computer standard
is WINTEL and not WINSEGTEL. SEG is not as strong as Microsoft and
Intel in their respective markets. Comparing SEG's strenght to their
strengths offers no comparison.

I don't follow Boeing closely, but the current news is public. Each
industry has its' own cycles and respective problems.

I also enjoyed The Intelligent Investor.

To All:

Sorry if this has previously been discussed - new to thread.
In the management discussions post release of the quarterly
results, did they talk about their potential currency exposure
going forward? I know they lost a bundle on forward positions
in the Singapore dollar, Malaysian ringitt etc. last quarter, but was curious to learn if these hedges were still on, or closed out.

Thanks in advance.........
