Never made this statement. I suggest you learn about covariance. >> Yes, there are similar problems of access. And in the case of Haiti, there is the added problem of distance. Distance really isn't, or shouldn't be, a major factor. We're talking 700 miles, and in NOLA, the city was largely inaccessible by ground transportation anyway during the flood. >> In fact retired General Honoré was furious last nite on CNN because they are taking so long to get a full contingency on the ground. Then you may have noticed he repeatedly pointed out similarities between the problems in Haiti and those in NOLA. >> I am well aware that flooding made it worse for the residents of the city but flooding did not prevent relief workers from getting there. This is an idiotic statement. HAVE YOU EVER EVEN BEEN THERE? Apparently you know nothing about the city. Maybe this will refresh your "oh, so short" memory: I would add that also at the level of the Superdome where this photo was taken, OR LOWER, is also the rail terminal (on the other side of the Dome) and almost ALL city streets, and portions of I10 and the loop out to the airport. There WAS very little access suitable for wheeled vehicles. In fact, reporters were going in and out of the city on a regular basis inspite of the flooding. Almost all the reporters who were feeding video back were there BEFORE the storm, who were holed up in the Royal Sonesta or other hotels in Quarter, which though operating without power, were there. The major pieces of footage from the Superdome and Convention Center Blvd. area were shot by a contract reporter who had been hired out of FLA and drove in PRIOR TO the hurricane hitting. The couple of times major news organizations changed and added reporters they flew in on private choppers.
