SOUTHBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1997--
New Disk Drives Dramatically Decrease Cost of Storage
While Delivering 1.6 Terabytes of Storage
In Less Then Five Square Feet of Floor Space
CLARiiON, the world's leading supplier of open RAID-based disk arrays and a Data General company (NYSE:DGN), today announced that it will be the first open systems RAID vendor to ship 18 GB, 7200 rpm disk drives, further enhancing its industry leading storage portfolio. The new 18 GB drives will be integrated into the SCSI Series 100, 1000, 2000, and Model 1900 TeleStor disk arrays, as well as the fibre channel attached Series 3000 disk array - the industry's most strategic SCSI storage product.
The 18 GB drives deliver increased density, decreasing the overall cost per megabyte of storage by 38%, while providing the ability for 1.6 terabytes of storage to be configured in less than 5 square feet of floor space - a 2X increase in megabyte per square foot of cabinet footprint - once again raising the bar for density in the SCSI storage subsystems arena. They are ideal for high bandwidth, storage-intensive applications such as data mining/warehousing, image processing, and digital audio/video.
"CLARiiON is committed to being the first to deliver leading technologies at cost effective prices," said Larry Hemmerich, vice president and general manager of CLARiiON. "Our choice to integrate the 18 GB disk drives into our products reinforces this commitment, as they deliver the highest levels of reliability, performance, and capacity available today."
Added Hemmerich, "This announcement also reinforces the continued value that CLARiiON delivers in helping the open systems storage
market to grow at increasingly aggressive rates." The addition of the 18 GB disk drive capacity builds upon the CLARiiON disk array's industry leading attributes, such as:
-- Leading RAID capabilities for high availability and high
performance in targeted applications
-- Completely redundant components eliminate single points of failure
for highest availability
-- Dual-active storage processors with mirrored-write cache for data
integrity
-- Concurrent support for multi-RAID configurations (0, 1, 3, 5, and
1/0) for optimized applications performance
-- Patented parity handling algorithms for highest levels of data
integrity available
-- Both industry leading fibre channel and traditional SCSI
attachments to host servers for investment protection
The 18 GB drives will begin shipping November 7, 1997.
Demonstrations of the new 18 GB disk drives will take place at Fall Comdex '97 in Las Vegas. To schedule a personalized demonstration, please email info@clariion.com .
