I believe an "oil defense" tax - or a "Persian Gulf security" tax would be appropriate. I also think the other countries of the world who benefit from our expense should contribute. I do not believe oil includes these costs. Of note - only a small amount of our oil comes from there - but the fungibility of oil makes this irrelevant. True markets should reflect real costs. However, these costs should be real and measurable - not hypothetical. Defense costs are real and increasingly beyond our ability to afford at current levels.
