JMAR Industries Receives $1.85 Million Order for Laser CPU Manufacturing System SAN DIEGO (Nov. 3) BUSINESS WIRE -Nov. 3, 1997--JMAR Industries Inc. (NASDAQ NM:JMAR) Monday announced that it received an order valued at approximately $1.85 million from a major U.S. computer manufacturer for the Lightning, a custom high-precision laser semiconductor processing system designed to play a critical role in the manufacture of central processing units (CPUs) used in high-end mainframe computers. It is the third order for the product that JMAR has received from the same manufacturer. The complete Lightning system, designed and manufactured by JMAR's PPL division, helps optimize CPU manufacturing yields and lowers production costs by utilizing a high-precision optical system for accurately positioning the CPU electronic components and a customer-furnished, commercially available excimer laser to remove excess material during processing. The excimer laser cost is not included in the above price. John S. Martinez, Ph.D., JMAR's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "A company can receive no better testament to the quality of its products and services than repeat business from its customers, and I am gratified to say that the Lightning is one of a growing number of JMAR products that have earned such a distinction. "While being an excellent stand-alone product, the Lightning also reflects JMAR's ability to expand sales by leveraging developed technologies that, due to their great flexibility, are capable of being adapted to address a broad range of microelectronics manufacturing needs." Martinez continued, "In addition to helping JMAR maintain consistent profitability, equipment sales like these enable us to establish relationships with leading technology product manufacturers that give us keen insight into the future needs of the technology marketplace. "To date, this knowledge has been invaluable in helping us to identify potentially significant market opportunities, and we have targeted our product development efforts accordingly. "Today, in addition to being a leading developer of advanced lithography sources for making higher performance semiconductors, we are nearing commercial introduction of our new Britelight(tm) laser systems for ultra-precision machining of electronic and ceramic materials and are completing development of our family of hand-held Light Knife(tm) lasers that can be used for needle-less blood sampling and other medical, dental and industrial uses." JMAR Industries develops, manufactures and markets precision measurement, process control and manufacturing systems and laser products for the microelectronics and medical industries and is a leading developer of advanced lithography sources for production of higher performance semiconductors.
