And someone would have to drive a truck in anyway to collect the parachutes for reuse.

Doesn't the military have disposable chutes for cargo? The USFS uses them on remote fire drops where the cost of packing out gear is greater than its value.

My objection to air drops in Haiti would be piracy of the cargo by gangs and black marketeers.

But the army knows how to do it.

The hang up seems to be with the Air Force team that was sent in to take over airport ops. They just can't handle the load needed. Are scheduling the landings way too far apart.

There is only one runway, so I understand that part of the problem. But they should be landing more planes.

Speaking of Admirals, the most infamous unloading was at Guadalcanal in '42. All the ships were loaded wrong, the Navy would not help, and the Marines couldn't handle the amount of unloading. What saved them when the Navy hauled ass was the Japanese food supplies left at Henderson field.

We should never should have put an Admiral in charge not for even a moment.

When did this become the rage anyhow? I mean I'm ex Navy but leave the folks who have never spent 1 second running a ground operation of any kind back on the damn ship where they know what they are doing. I mean put a Seabee chief in charge you'd at least stand a chance of getting something done.
