Barriers . . . Until we get a technically qualified engineer on this thread, we aren't going to really understand whether there are patent or other technical barriers to IDX's claims on the non-minutiae algorithm approach. There are clearly no barriers to publicly claiming you have the best system going; no barriers to minutiae-based systems; and, no barriers to cheap scanners. But these last don't really count (other than to confuse analysts). Keep in mind that no one but IDX is showing a thriving business here. That implies to me that IDX does have for now a technical lock on the type of recognition system that can be commercialized, and that Fowler and crew are the best at thinking up and landing potentially big deals.
