Wrong and here's proof that Scott took dead aim at the Independents, and won:

This ad was directed at the Independent voters...in Scott's own words, "every Independent thinking voter":

Here's another one where Brown invoked JFK in one of his ads...he was clearly channeling moderate Democrats here:

Then finally, here's a whole string of ads that gives the tenor of his campaign. Overall, the guy did a good job against a lackluster candidate. No wonder he won. He won the Independents 2 to 1.
