This is where I differ from the Left. I believe in a strong, but SMART military.

For example, I think we need to have enough nukes as a deterrent to large enemies like Russia and China. But right now, we still have enough nukes to destroy the world several times over. All of that costs money to maintain, so that they will work if we were to hit the launch button.

So why don't we get smart and cut our nukes down to just want we need to destroy the world once? Isn't that enough? It sure as hell would save us a ton of money.

The same could be said for our military. We spend a ton of money on weapons and personnel based on the 20th century concept of land based wars of pacification and post-war nation building. I'd cut that back dramatically and instead spend more on highly mobile special forces and air-based weapons. In addition, I'd limit our capability and our funding for nation building.

We outspend the rest of the world combined on the military. It's time that we start spending enough to beat our two top enemies only. We don't need to fund the military to take on the whole world. That's overkill.
