the way we respond to a situation like Haiti, as in New Orleans, is our FEMA ability, and overseas it is FEMA plus USAID, and use in that military logistics, but not guns, which is what many people want...

but, no, we do not have things yet restored in terms of FEMA to respond here, and FEMA at its best was not ready for a Katrina situation. and to respond overseas is not about the military, but having a system in place to bring in medical people and supplies, and not worry about security, like the 'savages' will revolt... get the people in there, get the supplies, set up the make-shift hospitals. get the people distributing food and setting up tents, etc.

that takes an organization, people on call for it, and someone to pull it all together and set it in motion. people with guns shooting 'looters' is the last thing we need, ala New Orleans. but i know you know that. anyways... yes, to set the whole thing in place, because there will only be more Katrina's and more situations like Haiti.

tejek,
we are a 3rd world country now. At least from the perspective of our debt. So I agree, let's help the 3rd world countries rebuild, starting with ourselves first.
