How much will never be paid back?

There is no way to be specific at this point, but obviously its quite a large sum.

Oh hell.......you and no one else knows what the future will bring. A good chunk of it has already been paid back. Even the bank in the worst shape, Citibank, has paid back their loan. The Fed Reserve made a $54 billion profit last year on all the money they were lending which can be used as an offset to the $85 billion still out.

In truth the tarp program can turn out to be wildly successful, benefiting not only the effected industries but the country as well.
